Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Musical Celebration Honours Community Volunteers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.
The 1,600 guests will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including award-winning actors.
A Theme of Love and Generosity
The focus of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Music and Opportunity
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists supported by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the trust, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the concert.
"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.
A Family Affair
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.
Within the audience will be people from various age groups.
That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.
The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
